Protect the Whistleblowers Who Expose Abuse in Factory Farms

factory-farm-abuse-180Slowly but surely, state legislatures have been passing laws making it illegal for people to expose the truth about the cruel and unnecessary treatment of animals in factory farms. This means anyone filming or taking pictures of activity going on in factory farms could be criminally charged to the full extent of the law. This cannot go on. These whistleblowers are just trying to get the truth out to the public about this horrible torture of animals, but Big Ag is really trying hard to keep you in the dark.

So they created “ag-gag” bills, which appear to be a coordinated, nationwide attempt by corporate Big Agriculture to silence and criminalize the heroic whistleblowers and journalists who expose abusive, unsanitary, and environmentally harmful practices on industrial farms through photos and video. Tell Congress they need to make “ag-gag” bills illegal and protect whistleblowers who expose abuse.

Stop the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Actgmooped

The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act sounds like a bill I would be in favor of, but it is not what it sounds like! The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act would prevent individual states from being allowed to create laws that would mandate GMO labeling. Instead, companies could voluntarily choose to label their products or not. This past week, the House of Representatives passed the bill, allowing GMO labeling to be voluntary. This means that state-by-state GMO labeling laws would be eliminated, and a federal law would take precedent, saying companies can choose to either be transparent with their customers, or keep them in the dark. This is mind boggling to me! We can not allow our representatives to represent big corporations and not listen to the general public! We need everyone’s help! We can still act now to stop this from happening. Let your voice be heard and don’t let this bill pass through the Senate without an outcry from the public. Tell them you want food transparency and sign the petition.

Prohibit the Fishing of the Blue Shark

XXkQVsYKIWoJpeU-800x450-noPadMillions of sharks are killed every year due to overfishing. Sharks are critical for our ecosystem and we have to protect them. Blue sharks in particular are closer and closer to becoming extinct with 10-20 million of them being killed every year. Tell them they need to change fishing regulations in order to better protect the lives of sharks and other large fish. Overfishing is a huge problem in the world and we can save our marine life by being more conscious of how much commercial fishing we do. Please sign the petition.
